Assistant Restaurant Server: TLC is looking for someone to help welcome guests to the house, as well as aiding with set up and take down. Food Safe 1 would be desired but not required to get the position. This is a great way to take part in the community while getting experience in a restaurant environment. Olympic Cheer: If you are a lover of hockey or would just like to help out, the come to the Burnside Gorge Community Association’s day of Olympic Cheer! They are in need of volunteers to help paint faces, tidy, lead games, assist families in need, help with food concession, and lead crafts while everyone watches the men’s Canada Vs USA Olympic hockey game. Camp Medic: If you have your OFA Level III First Aid then you can be of help to Camp Pringle. They are looking for families willing to come for a week-long camp and a week-long summer session. You get a week’s free room and board, and it’s an excellent opportunity to put medical skills to good use. On Air Programmer: If you would like to help with or host your own radio show then contact CFUV as they look for enthusiastic individuals who want to learn about broadcasting. No experience is necessary! You will need to donate 6 hours to volunteering and 4 hours to being trained. There will then be a weekly commitment of researching and hosting the program for 4 hours a week. Intrepid Theatre: Starting January 30th, students can get a discount to watch Intrepid Theatre performances. If you arrive 10 minutes before the show and present you student card then you need only pay $10! It’s a great way to see indie theatre at a low price while helping a great cause. Teens at the Library: The Greater Victoria Public Library has lots of activities coming up for youth to take part in. They have book clubs, writing workshops, the Freedom to Read contest, and a classic video game tournament. For those who are interested they also have volunteer opportunities with Reading Buddies and the Victoria Youth Council. For more information visit www.gvlp.ca
Mardi Gras Masquerade: Come take part in Threshold Housing Society’s Mardi Gras Masquerade. For just $30, you can take part in the Queen of Hearts Masquerade Dance coming up from 7-10pm on February 13th at the Ambrosia Event Centre. You can take part in dance lessons as well as the silent auction, door prizes, costume prizes, appetizers and a cash bar.
