Charities and the HST Rebate


 
 
On July 1, 2010 the HST will come into effect in BC (can anyone have missed this with all the media coverage it has received).

 
For charities and some non-profits (those receiving more than 40% of their revenue from the province) who currently receive a GST rebate, this will mean a change in the rebate calculation.
 
The province has set the PST portion of the HST rebate at 57% for charities. Thus when paying an invoice, the rebate will be calculated by taking 57% of the 7% PST portion and 50% of the 5% GST portion (as you do currently) and adding these together.

Volunteering with United Now


The following is a post co-written by myself and United Now team members sharing their volunteer experiences in support of National Volunteer Week. We thank them for their important contributions!
 
To kick off National Volunteer Week, a team of volunteers from United Now took a couple of hours on Saturday morning to revitalize the garden at one of Threshold Housing Society’s youth transitional housing units. It’s National Volunteer Week!

Volunteer Victoria is celebrating our 35th anniversary as well as National Volunteer Week (April 18-24). We, along with our partner, the TELUS Victoria Community Board, are recognizing the 138,000 volunteers who contribute to our community this week! That means that 1 in 3 people in Greater Victoria volunteer with at least one community organization, if not several.
