Thank you for your comments/feedback. Each year, during National Volunteer Week, Volunteer Victoria’s members pay for a joint Co-op ad (in Black Press and Times Colonist) to thank their volunteers. This is the ad you are referring to. Since the Royal Canadian Legion is unfortunately not a member, they did not take part.

We greatly value and appreciate all of the non-profit and charitable organizations in our community whose volunteers contribute significantly to the health and vibrancy of our community. Thank you for sharing more about your wonderful organization and I hope you will consider becoming a member of Volunteer Victoria and perhaps participating with us next year! Angie’s mom forwarded this article to me. I am Angie’s aunt and I have to say that I am so proud that she has found her niche in life. I always knew that one day she would do great things and would be an inspiration to others. I do not have a daughter of my own(2 wonderful sons) and I could not possibly be more proud of her if she was my daughter. I am ecstatic that she is following in my footsteps and getting into the human resources field. Angie is a people person like me. Way to go Angie!!! Keep up the great work. I hope you get as much satisfaction from your work as I do from mine.

I was surprised not to see the Royal Canadian Legion on your list of who has several Branches here in the local community and has many volunteers who contribute thousands of hours and money a year to the local community, including some of the organizations that are on your thank you list of the Goldstream News Gazette dated 18 Apr 1012. As the Zone Secretary of this great organization I would like to volunteer them if it is not too late? At ICA, we provide a number of valuable services for immigrants, including settlement assistance, employment assistance, workshops, mentorship, and much more! I would recommend that upon arriving in Victoria, you visit our location at 930 Balmoral Road and make an appointment to see our Intake Worker so that you can learn about all that we have to offer at ICA and be connected to the appropriate services for you.

Hello Karolien,

My name is Laura Mena. I live in Markham, ON but I’m seriously thinking of moving to Victoria, B.C. I am mother of 4 kids. I studied Accounting in Mexico and emigrated to Canada in 2007. I couldn’t develop my career as It was my desire because of many problems I faced and made me to emigrate. I’ve recently got my landed immigrant status so now I want to move to a nice play where to rise my kids.I’d like to know if I can get some mentoring in your organization as soon as I arrive to Victoria, because is my desire to be ready to get a job in order to provide for my family. I have to be honest, there is lots of work to do in my case, but I know that I am hungry of success and have the right motivation.
